The Book

In Pursuit of Wellness: A Patient’s Perspective

This book began as a set of journal entries written in the quiet aftermath of chronic illness and its resolution, with questions about health that no prescription could answer. It has since grown into a larger exploration of what it means to heal in a system designed for treatment rather than transformation.

In Pursuit of Wellness weaves memoir, science, and spirituality into one journey — from the body’s breakdown to its reclamation, and from individual recovery to collective renewal.

From Chapter 1:

The Slow Creep

By understanding the nature of the slow creep, by seeing how gradually and quietly we can drift away from wellness, we can begin to reclaim our power. The first step in changing direction is realizing you are not walking on the path you intended.

The moment you recognize the slow creep in your own life, you gain the power to interrupt it. You can begin to question the assumptions you’ve held about food, health, and wellness. You can start to listen to your body’s signals instead of dismissing them. You can begin to make conscious choices instead of unconscious ones.

This awareness is not about perfection or punishment. It’s about empowerment. It’s about recognizing that you have more control over your health than you might have realized. It’s about understanding that the choices you make today, however small they might seem, are shaping your future wellness.

The journey behind the book

The book draws from my work in public health, regenerative agriculture, and health coaching — and from the lived experience of being both a patient and a practitioner. It is informed by years of writing, research, and conversation across medicine, ecology, and meaning-making.

Each chapter reflects one phase of recovery: awakening, reorientation, and integration — the inner and outer work of becoming whole.

The Advocate’s Toolbox

The Advocate’s Toolbox, a forthcoming companion section, turns insights from the book into practice — with reflective prompts, coaching exercises, and community health resources for readers who wish to translate awareness into action.
